The Trust was established on 5 January 1995, with the singular mission of serving humanity by eliminating obstacles of sorrows, physical illness and to equip the masses with mental peace, through the practice of Ayurveda, Ashtanga Yoga, Raj Yoga, Dhyan Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Asanas, and Pranayama. To fulfill these goals, several initiatives have been launched, including Divya Pharmacy, Divya Prakashan, Divya Yoga Sadhana, Divya Gaushala, and Divya Nursery. These units operate under the expert guidance and close supervision of Dr. Acharya Balkrishna.
Divya Gaushala operates two dedicated cowsheds under the Trust, where high-breed cows such as Rathi, Sahiwal, Red Sindhi, Haryana, Tharparkar, and Gir are carefully maintained to produce valuable cow products essential for Ayurvedic medicine formulation. One of the Gaushalas, located at Gurukul Gaushala Farms, houses approximately 500 well-bred cows. The cow milk, dung, and urine collected are crucial for preserving and enhancing Ayurvedic practices. The dung is used as compost and bio-technical manure for cultivating organic food grains, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, biogas is produced from dung and other waste materials to meet the Ashram's cooking needs. The farm, spread over 50 acres, is equipped with large biogas plants, waste conversion machines, and urine distillation units. It also features units for assessing and utilizing bullock power, along with a Panchgavya Research & Training Centre. For years, the Ashram has focused on the preservation, improvement, and production of Ayurvedic medicines using cow products and on maintaining and improving indigenous cattle breeds, with an increasing emphasis on expanding these efforts.
Divya Nursery, located near Patanjali Yogpeeth at Maharishi Dayanand Gram, is home to over 900 species of medicinal herbs, shrubs, trees, climbers, and ornamental plants. Established to promote Ayurveda and conserve medicinal plants, the nursery supports scientific research and education. The Patanjali Herbal Garden within the nursery has been reorganized to benefit both scientists and the public, featuring around 300 species of herbs, 175 species of shrubs, 50 species of climbers, and 350 species of trees. The garden also includes 5 artificial caves for cultivating bryophytes, pteridophytes, and orchids, along with artistic displays of Ayurvedic practices and yoga. Additionally, the Nav Graham Vatika at Divya Nursery showcases nine plants representing the nine planets, while the Rashi Vatika and Nakshatra Vatika feature 12 zodiac-specific plants and 28 plants corresponding to the Nakshatras (constellations). The garden is enhanced by seven artificial fountains and a pond that create an ideal environment for aquatic plants like water chestnut, lotus, and water lily.
Additionally, a large birdhouse, surrounded by rare plants, a small pond, and a waterfall, provides a scenic, natural habitat for various bird species. Visitors can explore this tranquil setting via a hanging bridge, enjoying the serene and picturesque surroundings.
The herbal garden offers healthy, live saplings of medicinal plants cultivated by our experts, available for purchase by the general public at very reasonable prices.
